Going My Own Way
November 2015

Heading to the most unfamiliar place
That I've been to a million times
I'm not asking for directions
Or following the signs

Everyone's giving me advice
And thinking that they know
How I wanna live
And where I wanna go

Your lavish lifestyle
I'm happy if you are
But I'm a simple one
Need only the love in my heart

Whoever you be
Is fine with me
Oh, I say
I'm going my own way

Where is this God we call?
June 2015

Ancient streets of legends old
Tales of sinners and saviors told

Constantly in fight or flight
The damned and the great, the Isrealites

The soldiers and the freedom fighters
Devoted monks, beggars and liars

A holy land soaked in red
The killing will stop when everyone's dead

A call to God to end the hate
To forgive us all with a clean slate

A call to God to save our souls
To mend our wounds and make us whole

Where is this God we call?
Where is this God we call?

He's in the air we breathe
The wings of the birds and the bees

Save yourself and then you'll see
He's in your heart and he's in me

Portugal
February 2015

Dogs of skin and bones aplenty,
Everyone seems old.
Tales of the great empire that was,
Still proudly but sadly told.

Portugal, why are you stripped of lust?
Your streets, and your culture, covered in dust?
What happened to your glory days, your empire so great?
Your people cry and gently accept their sad fate.

Portugal, will you save yourself?
It seems you haven't the will.
Portugal, you reached your peak,
And now you descend the hill.

Portugal, where is your fire?
Where is your fight to life?
Oh Portugal, it's painful to see,
Your great hardship and strife.

Mama Nature
December 2014

We have so much to learn
From the trees
Every year they go green
Then lose all their leaves

Mama nature has so much
Wisdom if we listen
Let's all reinvent ourselves
Like the trees as they glisten

We can learn from the river
She flows easy and free
Never looking back
She moves at her own speed

Don't struggle and fight
Against the flow of life
But just like the river
Let's all float on tonight

Some things you just can't learn in a classroom
You have to go outside to see
The things only nature can teach you
Like how to live wild and free

Mama nature, mother earth
Please teach me all you know
And from your age old wisdom
I'll blossom and I'll grow

Balance
November 2014

It's cramping my style
This day of denial
The bubbly me
Can't break free

I heard that balance
Is good for the soul
That you can't always
Feel rock n roll

That hard days are needed
For many different reasons
Just like the weather
The turn of the seasons

Opposites attract
The yin and the yang
Leather and lace
Pleasure and pain

Let go, let go
To the balance within
Let go, let go
Feel the earth's spin

Cages
June 2014

Everyone together, walk left, look right
Don't put up a fight
Nice music on the radio
And we forget our fight
Take X, drink Jack and dance all night

Bar by bar, nail by nail
We build these cages all by ourselves

Freedom is not to be mistaken with happiness
Don't you forget it
But we're happy
Let's just forget it

Our army is big enough
We're safe in our mansions
We have a big closet
With all the latest fashions
And we're free

Fancy beach vacations
For two weeks a year
We're makin the big bucks
But why then this fear?
And we're free

Sitting in the office
And starting to sweat
As I start to realize
I haven't lived yet
And I'm free

My Bird
February 2014

A bird upon my window sill
Dreams of the day ahead
Not sure who he'll meet or why
The unknown fills his head

Little feet scratch chipping paint
Not a tree in sight
Between concrete blocks and musty air
My little bird takes flight

To the world he's open wide
Time is always on his side

He meets princes at the doorsteps
Of castles in the clouds
Kings and queens invite him in
Before him, angels bow

Saints applaud his bravery
And God comes out to see
Then back to earth and down he goes
Tells tales of heaven to me

To the world he's open wide
Time is always on his side

Where do you go
Up, up so high?
It must be great
Up there in the sky
If only I,
If only I

To the world he's open wide
Time is always on his side
My bird, my bird

  1. Yes, exactlxy what I felt. But funny enough - Portugal felt far more spirited than Spain. Northern Spain being the worst. West Portugal has flourishing tourism and that seems to lift the spirits. The ocean is present, its strength can be felt... Southern Portugal and Southern Spain are the areas where I felt most depressed. Travelling towards France now it feels better - even Barcelona has a more lifted energy already. The vegetation is greener, too...

    1. I was mostly in non-touristy areas in Portugal, so I didn't catch the more uplifting spirits of people in touristy areas. And I have never been to northern Spain or Barcelona. It's funny you mention the vegetation, that is one thing that was also depressing for me - the lack of vegetation in southern Portugal. I felt that the depressing dusty landscape mirrored the people. I hope your travels take you to more happy places!
